Is it necessary to upgrade to the latest DSE 6.7 version before going to 6.8?

Hi Team,

As per the documentation, I understood that we need to upgrade first to the latest version of DataStax Enterprise 6.7.x. before we install 6.8.14.

I have a couple of questions regarding upgrade approach.

  1. Currently, I am on 6.7.14 and do I need to upgrade to 6.7.15 or can I skip it?
  2. Will there any negative impacts of skipping a point release?

Regards, Raj

For best practice, our general recommendation is to always upgrade to the latest minor version before performing a major upgrade since there might be known issues in the current version that you're running which is likely to have already been solved in the latest minor version.

We don't recommend skipping this step since it is very important. It is the tested, documented procedure for that reason. There are no exceptions to this recommendation unless you get a tailored advice from a DataStax Engineer who is familiar with your environment and situation.

If you have any follow up questions, please log a ticket with DataStax Support so one of our engineers can work with you directly. Cheers!
