Need a step by step instruction to install and configure cassandra on virtual box in a windows laptop. Can anyone help with instructions and steps ?
VirtualBox allows you to run virtual machines on a physical host which in your case is a Windows laptop. You can install Cassandra on most Linux distributions. Ubuntu and CentOS/RHEL are the most popular and more user-friendly particularly for those with little Linux experience.
You will need to do an internet search on how to deploy a Linux VM in VirtualBox. Once you've got a Linux VM running, you can follow the Cassandra installation procedure here.
I should mention that if you just want to try Cassandra and learn about it, visit the DataStax for Developers site https://www.datastax.com/dev which has free tutorials running on Katakoda.
If you're not familiar with Katakoda, it's a self-contained platform where a Cassandra cluster launches automatically and everything you need to learn Cassandra is all setup for you in a single browser tab. There's nothing for you to install and you can start learning in a few clicks. Cheers!
