Are OpsCenter 6.1+ Backup Service backups to S3 encrypted in transit?

OpsCenter >= 6.1 uses the AWS SDK for Java and the AWS SDK AmazonS3Client defaults to using HTTPS.

However, I haven't been able to determine from the documentation whether or not S3 backups are encrypted in transit.

Are Backup Service backups to S3 encrypted in transit?

Thanks in advance.

As you are already aware, the OpsCenter Backup Service uses the AWS Java SDK for accessing Amazon S3 buckets and the AWS SDK uses the HTTPS protocol to all service endpoints, including Amazon S3.

It doesn't make sense to not use this security feature and override it to only use HTTP since it breaks accepted industry norm and best practice.

This isn't documented in OpsCenter since this functionality is specific to Amazon S3 and is subject to AWS implementation. Cheers!

@smbaker, from our OpsCenter experts I had the below,

It depends on the destination. Connections to AWS or s3 compatible storage use ssl by default. If one is using a local fs [file system] destination to an NFS mount, it depends on how the NFS mount is setup.
