DS201 VM does not connect to internet

I tried to set up the lab environment for the course DS201. I downloaded DS201-VM-6.0.ova and set up the VM instance.

I typed ‘ifconfig’ command at the terminal window of the VM. I could not see the IP address assigned for enp0s3 network device.

I restarted the VM for few times, still it the same.

Please let me know if I miss something. I attach the screenshot.

It doesn't work for me. It seems that it failed to display the Ubuntu Desktop after I changed "Attached to: Bridge Adapter" from the original NAT" and Adapter Type: PcNet FASTIII from the original Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop.

Here is my original Network settings, please let me know what shall be the correct way?

And the strange thing is when I import the .ova by default, it always working no problem of displaying the Ubuntu Desktop interface! However, whenever I messed around with Network settings on Oracle Virtualbox, it broke. 1606613748801.png

Thank you

Here is the network setting I have that works for me. And also I have the Graphics Controller set as 'VBoxVGA'. Please check if that works.ds201-networksettings.png

I modified the settings exactly like yours, except when I selected VBoxVGA as Graphics Controller, it shows "Invalid Settings detected". The only valid option on my Virtual Box is "VMSVGA". After changed, I tried to start the server, it does something, but then the cursor just stuck there, black screen not even proceed to to the Ubuntu desktop. When I just import the original ova and leave as NAT, Adapter Type: Intel PRO/10000 MT desktop 82540EM, it was ok. I just try to test the Tutorial 5 to get drive installed, apparently I wasn't able to connect my Ubuntu to the Internet.

The following screenshot shows when I tried to import the ova

Are they ok?

Any other reasons?

Thank you

Thanks for looking into this Erick,

Later that day, I discovered that the issue was Network adaptor type setting. The the DS201 image came up with the Adaptor type as 'Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop(82540EM). I changed that to PCnet-FAST III. Then, it started to work. Please find the screenshot

As it shows in the screenshot you posted, the VM is using an IPv6 address:

enp0s3 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:27:32:1e:dd
          inet6 addr: fe80::a00:27ff:fe32:1edd/64 Scope:Link

[UPDATE] VirtualBox network configuration issue.
