How do I migrate data from a 5-node cluster to a 3-node cluster?

[FOLLOW UP QUESTION TO #4477]

I have a cluster with 5 nodes at source and now I want to migrate this cluster to a new cluster which is having 3 nodes. Are these scenarios possible? or having node ratio 1:1 (as described in https://docs.datastax.com/en/ddac/doc/datastax_enterprise/operations/opsMoveCluster.html) already eliminate this question?

This is exactly the scenario I answer in question #4477.

For each table you want to copy to the new cluster:

  1. Take a snapshot of the table.
  2. Create the table in the destination cluster using the schema.cql in the snapshot.
  3. Load the snapshots from the 1st node of the source cluster to the destination cluster using the sstableloader utility.
  4. Repeat step 3 until you have loaded data from all nodes in the source cluster.

For detailed steps, see the procedure I documented in question #4477. Cheers!
