In this post, I'll discuss the free cloud options available to you.
The DataStax Developer Relations team run free workshops every week to share knowledge with users.
We deliver workshops with hands-on exercises since we believe you are able to learn effectively when they can try the examples on your own. To facilitate this activity depending on the workshop content, we provision a cloud instance at no cost to users.
But despite not charging you for the workshop, we have to pay for the EC2 instances + EBS volumes we supply to you. We get charged roughly US$6.00 per day multiplied by 2,000+ participants and the dollars add up pretty quickly. :)
It just isn't viable for us to continue providing cloud instances after the workshop. Instead, we encourage you to explore the free options from public cloud providers. For example, Azure offers free accounts which includes $200 in credits. Similarly, Google Cloud's free tier includes $300 in credits to use with any Google Cloud services.
Here are resources to 3 popular providers and their respective free tier programs:
Thank you for participating in our workshops. Cheers!
