Trying to run Cassandra (using command ./dse cassandra) on AWS EC2 Instance in Ireland region (following instruction mentioned in the "Exercise 1 – Install and Start Apache Cassandra") but command is running from more than 120 min. I'm stuck here and please help me on this. Appreciate your help..

EC2 Instance: t2.micro

Region: Ireland

Running Command: ./dse cassandra

Issue: Stuck, running from last 90 mins

Hi @study.aakansha2019_193516,

the end of the output that you pasted is actually the end of the output sequence at startup, and from this output alone there is nothing indicating that this is stuck. Do you get back to the command prompt when you hit the enter key? If you do, you can try to run nodetool status to see if your node came up successfully.

./nodetool status

However, please note that instance type t2.micro with 1GB memory is most certainly too small to run DSE and Cassandra successfully, even for simple tests and exercises. I would expect that you run into OOM issues sooner rather than later with this instance type. As the very minimum I would not go below 4GB of memory.

I hope this helps.

Thank Bettina for looking on the query. Now i'm trying with Oracle VM and attached my PC memory configuration and when I'm running ./dse cassandra its getting stuck. PFA for the same. Is there any issue be my PC hardware, memory configuration. What I need to do at my end. Appreciate your help. I'm struggling to start Cassandra from last 1 week

Hi,

how much memory did you allocate to your VM? I would recommend to not allocate less than 4GB of base memory when you set it up.

You should be able to check the amount of memory you set up by selecting your DS201 VM, and then "Machine -> Settings" from the header menu bar. You will find the memory settings under System, Motherboard.

Thanks!
