Cassandra as a career option

Hello all,

I am new to the community here so apologies if the my query is not in the correct forum. Will ask anyway.

I am a developer with an RDBMS background for more than 12 years. PL/SQL to be precise. I recently decided to move to a NoSQL DB and zeroed in on Cassandra. I do not have a background in Java or Node js or Python. Based on the 2 day developer workshop that I just had with these amazing folks at DataStax, it appeared to be more on how we are interacting with Cassandra. My preference was to stick to the Database part of Cassandra. Based on that preference, should it be the Cassandra Admin or the Architect path that I should undertake? Looking for opinions or any valuable suggestions.

Since your intention is to "stick to the Database part of Cassandra", choosing a Cassandra Admin path definitely makes sense. However, it is very helpful for Cassandra database admins to also possess some level of Cassandra developer knowledge to be more effective at the admin job, as you will have better understanding on what is suboptimal (e.g. inefficient data model, bad access patterns, incorrect driver settings) on the development side and how it causes admin/operations issues.
