I want to do developer one now and how do I know if it is 3.x or 4.x now

Have a look at this "https://docs.datastax.com/en/landing_page/doc/landing_page/compatibility.html". The latest version of DSE 6.8.24 still is compatible with 3.11 though more features are getting supported from version 4.x. At this point, it's safe to assume that the cert is mostly based on 3.x.

The DataStax Academy certification is only for Apache Cassandra 3.x. We are working on updating the courses in the coming months but I don't have any timelines to share at this point.
In the meantime, you can find everything these is to know in DataStax Certifications. Please read it thoroughly before asking any follow up question because it literally has all the info on that page. Cheers!
