Do we need to upgrade SSTables with open-source Cassandra?

Hi team,

Do we need to upgrade sstable when we do upgrade activity for Apache Cassandra Database ? We used to do it only for DataStax Cassandra.is it same for apache Cassandra ? if yes what is the sstable format for apache Cassandra 3.11.10 ?

Yes, you need to upgrade the SSTables whenever you upgrade Cassandra.

The same upgrade tasks apply to both DSE and open-source Apache Cassandra. DSE ships with the same Cassandra database but with enterprise features included. Otherwise, they are the same when it comes to performing upgrades.

Also, the SSTable format is irrelevant since you always need to upgrade the SSTables even for minor patch/release upgrades. Cheers!
